James was a man of faith and kindness, a man of strength, and purpose, a man who overcame vast obstacles in his youth to get an education. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service and went back to school to finish his Doctorate. He was a teacher and a counselor. In his later years, James assisted pastor Thornton with pre-marriage counseling at the church. He instilled his love for God and service to others in his children and grandchildren and was quick to say when you give your time to serve others, you are giving a priceless gift. He was accomplished and possessed a work ethic unlike any other, James held a job from 9 years old to help his mother provide for the family. He continued to work after retirement to as he would say “stay busy” and counsel those in need. James was an exceptional Christian, son, husband, father, and friend. His servant's heart was evident in all that he did. From caring for his family, helping his fellow man on projects, donating his time to the church to serve his brothers and sisters in Christ, and taking time to teach young men and women to better themselves through ministry. He was loved and will be greatly missed. His passing will leave a space in this world that will be noticed by many. His family takes comfort in knowing he is living eternally with his Lord and Savior.
